I followed very quickly in J.R.R. Tolkien's footsteps after reading The Lord of the Rings and then starting to play FRP games and write my own backgrounds and scenarios for them. Initially, the conlangs existed only to support consistent naming, but I soon got interested in doing more with them. (As a side note, I early defined the Common Tongue to be Modern American English, so all of these languages have two names: the name of the language given it by its speakers, followed in parentheses by the name in Common, if there is one.) Not very much is web-ready yet--I am adding to the material here as time permits.
| Fight linguistic extinction: invent a language! | [or a few :)] | |
| Vaúste lingwason sálthámena: asúste lingwan! | Veldanéas Lingwas (Veldan) | |
| Bolema galanga roa sei: tua bahonga 'ta roa! | Bahonga 'ta roa (Taroan) | |
| Palsa tankie^n delman: ses delsae^n wi:nase^n! | O:radiendelsa |
I very early on saw the merit in imposing a standard orthography on my languages. Because they're all spoken by humans and other species whose phonological capabilities are very similar, there is a certain necessary phonetic similarity, so this does not impose unnecessary constraints on the languages.
Here are some aphorisms in various of my conlangs.
